About the Planning Process

The Lakota Team’s approach to the Park Enhancement Recommendations assignment is to maximize community input and pair it with staff’s knowledge and experience to provide the highest quality plan for the future of the William W. Powers State Recreation Area. The project approach is organized into four phases: Engage, Analyze, Envision, and Implement.

During the Engage project phase, we will solicit community comment on how the park should be enhanced to meet the needs of residents and park users.

  • Public Open House #1: Project Introduction, Existing Site Conditions Overview, Issues and Opportunities, and Project Goals will be hosted on Saturday, December 12th, 2015 from 10am – 1pm at the Vodak East Side Library.

During the Analyze project phase we will analyze the site, considering existing conditions, opportunities and constraints, as well as neighborhood and civic interests.

  • Public Open House #2: Project Goals and Big Ideas for Park Improvements Charrette will be hosted on Wednesday, January 20th, 2016 from 4:30pm – 7:30pm at the Vodak East Side Library.

During the Envision project phase, we will work with stakeholders and community members to develop ideas and strategies for park improvements.  Based on community input, we will refine and prioritize recommendations in a draft Park Enhancement Recommendations Plan.

  • Public Open House #3: Draft Recommendation Refinement and Idea Prioritization Charrette will be hosted on Saturday, February 27th, 2016 from 10am – 1pm at the Wm. Powers Visitor Center.

During the Implement project phase, we will outline strategies for successful project implementation based on community priorities, identification of available resources, and sound cost estimating.

  • Public Open House #4: Draft Final Park Enhancement Recommendations Plan Presentation and Opportunity for Public Comment will be hosted on Thursday, April 7th, 2016 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm at the Hegewisch Public Library.
